Aryell Cohen was raised in a Hebrew-speaking and tradition-filled environment. His father was a Palmachnik in the 1948 War of Liberation, and his mother a Hebrew teacher, who taught in the Sinai Temple Religious School in the 1950’s. He began music studies in Piano at a young age, and continued with Theory, Composition, Voice, Organ, Cantillation (biblical chant) and Chazzanut (cantorial art). This talented and energetic musician has earned national respect as an outstanding interpreter of Jewish liturgical music.
He served as the first Organist of Burbank Temple Emanu El, and from 1975 to 2021 served Sinai Temple in West Los Angeles with distinction as Organist and Choir Director. Aryell is now Organist and Choir Director, Emeritus. He has numerous television and recording appearances to his credit. As conductor, guest lecturer and accompanist, Mr. Cohen has participated at national conventions for the American Conference of Cantors/Guild of Temple Musicians and the Cantors Assembly. For many years he was the accompanist for the Cantors Assembly Western Region Mid-Winter Conferences.
Since 1970, Mr. Cohen has served Sinai Temple as Senior Mentor of their B’nai Mitzvah program, preparing between sixty and seventy children per year. He has edited and arranged many compositions that have been published by Transcontinental Music.
